AI Representatives: Revolutionizing Meeting Attendance for White-Collar Workers

Liang disclosed to Business Insider that Otter is making progress towards this goal and might complete a prototype later this year. These AI representatives would mimic employees' behaviors and ways of speaking by learning from their meeting records and voice data. Liang expects that Otter's AI representatives could answer 90% of questions in meetings, with the remaining 10% being referred to the actual employees for assistance.

Liang argues that if AI representatives can accurately represent staff, they could not only save time but also enhance efficiency. These agents could attend meetings on customer support, sales, and team updates, freeing up employees to engage in creative work and thereby generate more value for the company. Employees could even send their AI copies to meetings during their vacations.

However, developing trustworthy AI agents faces technical and social challenges. Liang points out that it's challenging for AI to learn the appropriate ways to interact in meetings, including knowing when to speak or remain silent. AI also needs to learn how to adjust its tone based on emotional cues.

Therefore, Liang believes these AI agents need to undergo several stages of development before they can operate as envisioned.
